6 Motivation Tips When It Comes to Exercising

Take it Slow

One of the best ways to keep track of your progress at the gym is to take progress pictures. It’s not always easy to see the changes in your body, as you see yourself every day. You may get discouraged if you feel like you’re not noticing any difference in your appearance, and this is where taking pictures comes in handy. You want to be sure to not take pictures every day, as we mentioned before – progress takes time. Instead, aim to take progress pictures every 2 to 3 weeks.

Throw Away the Scale

While the scale is good to keep track of your weight, it can oftentimes be misleading. If you’re performing an exercise like strength training, you might not lose as much weight as you were hoping to. The reason this is misleading, is because your building muscle which is denser than fat. What that means is, muscle takes up less space in your body compared to fat. While you might not see the numbers on the scale dropping as much, you’ll still look much leaner if you’re building muscle.

Keep It Varied

You don’t want to run the risk of getting burnt out when it comes to exercising. Keep it varied when it comes to working out. This will help keep you excited about being physically active. Nobody wants to do the same thing every day, and it’s no different when it comes to exercise. Try and switch up your workout routines every few months or so to help keep up your momentum for exercising!

Remember Your “Why”

If you start to feel discouraged or losing motivation to work out, go back to thinking about why you started in the first place. We all exercise for various reasons, and one of them being that it’s incredibly important for our physical and mental health. If you have a day where you don’t feel like going to the gym, think back about why you started. The only workout you regret is the one you didn’t do.

Get an Accountability Partner

If you find it hard to get up and go to the gym, you should consider getting an accountability partner. This could be a friend or family member who will encourage you to exercise. Oftentimes, it’s best if your accountability partner works out with you. In turn, when you aren’t feeling up to exercising, it’ll be much harder to turn down if you know someone is counting on you.
