John has been photographing wildlife and wild places for over 20 years, and his work has been published widely in books, magazines, posters, postcards and advertisements. He was co-photographer for the book The Rockies, Canada's Magnificent Wilderness, and later, authored and did the photography for the book, High Life, Animals of the Alpine World, published by Northland Press. He recently earned his doctorate in Biology from Montana State University in Bozeman, studying behavioral interactions between wolves and elk in and around Yellowstone National Park. More recently, he began research in the Pamir Mountains of Afghanistan, studying Argali (Marco Polo sheep) for the Wildlife Conservation Society as part of a larger USAID funded project addressing the country's biodiversity. The results of his research have been published in several scientific journals including: Ecology; Animal Behaviour; Behavioral Ecology and Sociobiology; and Science.
