Members and Publisher get face to face...
Led by DRR's Sr. Director of Professional Imaging and pro photographer Ric Kasnoff, on June 21st a team of five photographers left from Seattle to Kodiak Island, Alaska where they boarded float planes for a 150+ mile flight out to the remote Katmai Coast for an 8 day, 7night "photo safari" exploring this remote region of Alaska seeking out and photographing the Kodiak Grizzly Bears and other wildlife.

With generous support from sponsors, several members were offered the opportunity for this experience and we will have more opportunities like these for more of our members in other parts of the world. The participating DRR Members included:

Andrea Johnson | Portland, OR.
Board of ASMP Oregon

Martin Trailer | San Diego, CA.
APA National 1st Vice-President Corporate | Editorial | Portraiture

Greg Probst | Seattle, WA.

The nature of the trip, the remote, isolated setting and the close quarters on the vessel for an extended period all worked to encourage open communication and sharing of perspectives between the group, exactly the things that DRR's founder and CEO, Evan Nisselson has been promoting over the years as what is needed to help photographer members of Digital Railroad expand their knowledge and effectiveness in our ever changing industry.

To share the experience with the broader DRR member community and the photo industry as a whole, DRR plans a series of blogs and stories relating the experience from all who are participating in this community adventure. Says DRR President and Industry veteran Charles Mauzy, "Our goal is, and has always been, not only to provide the tools and technologies to our member photographers which increase their ability to manage, market, license and sell their images, but to insure they have the opportunity and knowledge to use these tools efficiently and effectively. Programs like this one and the sharing of the experience with our other member photographers, buyers and the broader imaging industry are designed to meet that goal."

The photo safari continued through Friday, June 29th.

With the help of Gary Halpern, Publisher of PhotoMedia Magazine, who is also accompanying the group, we will share stories and learnings resulting from the experience both during the trip and after.

Look for images here (and of course in Marketplace) as they become available.
