EVE Opens Photographic Windows to the World with the Speed and Collaborative Features Digital Railroad Provides.EVE is a collective of six dynamic, creatively independent and multi-talented women photographers, who share a passion to document the world at large in thematic presentations. The powerful collective’s members are: Marizilda Cruppe from Brazil, Agnès Dherbeys from France, Bénédicte Kurzen from France, Justyna Mielnikiewicz from Poland, Lourdes Segade from Spain and Newsha Tavakolian from Iran. Early on, the group faced two key challenges: finding an easy access Web-based system for virtual collaboration, and finding a system that could successfully promote their work, no matter where their photographic journeys took them. "The first thing Digital Railroad provided us with was a window to the world. We didn't need a Web designer, or a technical person. We could manage it all ourselves. We could travel anywhere in the world and as long as we had access to the Internet, we could reach our archives." "I proposed Digital Railroad to the group; I did not know of any other system like it. I established my own archive before EVE was even born. When our group got together I realized that another EVE member was already using it as well,” recalls Bénédicte Kurzen. The collective photographers were also at varying levels of technological aptitude. It was important for the solution to have an immediate and easy to use platform for each photographer to manage their images. Lourdes Segade, another EVE member was also concerned about how to successfully promote the collective's work. "When you start something new and are unknown it is important that besides the promotion and the quality of the work there's something that gives you additional value. In this case, we're empowered by the same system that bigger and very respected agencies are using." "It is clear to me that the most important benefit right now is the quantity of people who visit the Digital Railroad site and who search for photographers and pictures there." EVE has successfully enlarged its exposure to a greater network of potential photo buyers, but the system has also empowered them to sell themselves. "Digital Railroad is the perfect system to promote yourself in an easy way. A lot of photographers don't know how to sell themselves. I would say the photojournalistic work is 80% of the job, but there is 20% left of knowing how to approach people and showcase your work. Digital Railroad fulfills a large part of that 20%," says Bénédicte Kurzen Digital Railroad also gives EVE a central meeting place for critiquing one another and stimulating each other's creative output. "With Digital Railroad, we're breaking the isolation of independent photographers. The technology works very well for us because even though we are so far apart, we are still united through Digital Railroad," says Kurzen. And despite the obstacles in the distance of geography, EVE's remarkable images are always available. "At the end of the day, when a picture story is downloaded and everything looks good and ready to sell, you know you have achieved something.” For EVE, the challenge of bringing the world's images to the Web and reaching new buyers is now met with ease. EVE continues to see its Web presence build, and in addition to numerous contacts by galleries, the group was most recently asked to be a part of judging a prestigious photography contest in Australia. No matter where their journeys take them, EVE's powerful images are only a click away from thousands of potential buyers and photo agencies across the world. |
