FIFTYCROWS AND DIGITAL RAILROAD PARTNER TO HELP MODERNIZE PHOTOGRAPHERS WORKFLOW

New York Digital Railroad Inc. today announced that FiftyCrows International Fund for Documentary Photography is the first competition to modernize its submission process with Digital Railroad’s Web-based applications services.

FiftyCrows, www.fiftycrows.org, will leverage Digital Railroad to streamline the photographic submission process for its 2004 FiftyCrows International Fund for Documentary Photography Competition.  Digital Railroad, DRR.NET, is the primary contest entry system for the esteemed 14th competition, which is expected to draw several thousand submissions from around the world.

Entrants will use Digital Railroad workflow and archive system to digitally submit their photography for review by FiftyCrows judges based in different cities around the world. Submission for the premiere competition for documentary photographers used to be an expensive analog process, as photographers had to print images and ship them internationally for submission to FiftyCrows.

"The Digital Railroad system revolutionizes the submission process for FiftyCrows competitions, as well as minimize costs for the photographer and us," said Andy Patrick, Chairman, Founder and Executive Director, FiftyCrows. “Not only does the tool completely transform how the FiftyCrows Photo Fund competition functions, but I am certain it will simplify the way photographers work on a daily basis. We look forward to the advantages Digital Railroad will provide for all our competitions.”

"We're honored that the prestigious FiftyCrows competition has chosen Digital Railroad technology to modernize their competitions and empower photographers around the world," said Evan Nisselson, founder and chief executive officer.  "We built Digital Railroad to reduce repetitive production tasks while simultaneously enabling photographers to easily submit their photography to magazines and competitions.”

The work of the FiftyCrows' judges and staff is tremendously reduced as they receive a digital lightbox submission of images from photographers. These collections can be reviewed and voted on by multiple judges from their desks globally, rather than having to travel to one location for editing.

The Photo Fund provides monetary grants to contest winners, and has evolved to include distribution of the winning essays to an audience of millions worldwide.  The competition now has multiple call-for-entries per year with each one focusing on a different geographic regions and/or issues. This particular call-for-entries focuses on visual stories of people, conditions and issues by emerging documentary photographers in Central Asia and The Caucasus, re-appearing national minorities in the former Soviet Union .

Digital Railroad's Web-based application services transform the individual photographer’s business.  Digital Railroad, automates repetitive workflow tasks, as well as streamlines delivery of images and communications with clients—providing photographers an online searchable archive that unlocks potential image revenue.

Digital Railroad has donated its services to FiftyCrows and the photographers for the submission portion of the Photo Fund.
