Raised by Argentine parents in a small town in Vermont, Michael Bonfigli's interst in Latin Culture began with a family trip to Buenos Aires when he was 10. Michael was drawn to both the intensity of life in Buenos Aires and his Uncle's own photographs of the area.
After studying in Barcelona during college, Michael joined the Peace Corps to work with the Miskito Indians on the Northern Coast of Honduras. It was there that he became specifically intersted in documentary photography.
Michael has photographed for The Washington Post, Discovery Communications, Outside Magazine, The Seattle Times, and other publications. Michael recently received a Journalism Fellowship in Child and Family Policy from the University of Maryland to examine coverage of Hispanic immigrants.
Michael's personal work has continued to focus on Latin American Culture. His recent photographs document life in Cuba, Argentina, Brazil and the Miskito Coast of Honduras. He is currently working on a project documenting the lobster divers of the Miskito Coast.
