Stephen Alvarez
PROFILE
National Geographic Photographer Stephen Alvarez produces stories about exploration, endangered places, indigenous cultures and archeology. His adventures have taken him from the icy mountaintops of the Andes to the deepest cave in the world in Abkhasia. His images of cave exploration and underground landscapes result in an unmatched archive of subterranean photography.

His most recent National Geographic story, Beyond the Blue Horizon, took Alvarez across the Pacific Ocean to document the original inhabitation of Oceania.

His September 2006 NGM story River Caves won an Editorial Series Award in Communication Arts 48.

Also, Stephen continues a project in northern Uganda and southern Sudan to document the cycle of violence and its aftermath in the border region.

Stephen Alvarez is represented by National Geographic Image Sales, 1.800.434.2244.
