I was born in Pistoia, Tuscany, where I still live.
I have always been interested in the visual arts and their reproduction. I began playing with my parents’ telemeter Cannonet, using it during trips and holidays. Time after time my passion grew and new commitments arrived.
The first projects were concentrated on landscapes that in time I flanked with social or tourist reportage, which recently have become the most important part of my work.
In the beginning I tried to depict reality in an extremely faithful way, then I began to force myself to show a personal vision of the subject, especially when I feel no more division between it and myself, when the camera becomes a prosthesis of my body, no longer like a foreign body I carry. Bresson said that he identified this like an alignment of mind, eye and heart.
In these moments the subject feels it, appears more natural and doesn't care about me anymore.
I restrict my equipment to the least intrusive as possible. I travel with two cameras, two wide-angles, a telephoto lens and a flash. When I go out to shoot I carry just a camera and a wide-angle.
I do most of the landscape shots with the telephoto lens. I use flash just for fill, with natural light and during the night as well.
I adore Asia. I find this continent fantastic, giving me continual photographic and intellectual inspiration.
