The idea of making a meaningful contribution to society and a passion for photography congregated in Daniel Etter’s decision to become a documentary photographer. In 2005 he moved to New York to get an insight view of the world of photojournalism while interning at Black Star. Naivety dwindled and belief grew. Since than he has been working on numerous personal projects and interned with VII and James Nachtwey.

In 2006 Daniel Etter was awarded with the Award of Excellence of the Alexia Foundation for his longterm project about the influence of the Holocaust on present culture. This essay not only explores the darkest – and probably most decisive – chapter of the history of his homeland, but it is also a quest to answer questions he has asked himself ever since he first encountered this part of German history.
